You may have noticed that the weather is starting to get ever-so-slightly chilly, as we start to move away from the summer and move ever-closer to the winter. As you begin to start seeking out the woolly hats and gloves, and amidst the concerning increase in Christmas-related items appearing on store shelves, it’s also worth you thinking about how you’re planning to enjoy a nice drink in the cold weather. Beers are particularly enjoyable when the temperatures drop, and so today we’ve highlighted some of the best beers for you to enjoy when the cold weather really hits.
To begin with, let’s look at Russian Imperial Stouts. The name tells you where this beer originates from, and it dates back to the nineteenth century. But not only is it one of the longest-running international beer beverages, it’s also one of the nicest, and its Russian background makes it ideal for winter conditions. There are a number of variants that you may wish to consider sampling this winter, and they include North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout; Oskar Blues Ten FIDY; Stone Imperial Russian Stout; and Founders Imperial Stout, all of which hit the mark perfectly as the weather gets colder.
Next, we’ll go for an even older drink that also comes from the eastern side of the continent, that being Baltic Porters. These porters would incorporate stale ales to create an acidic flavour, which allow drinkers to feel like their mouths are smoky, roasted and thoroughly refreshed; the end result is a beverage that stands out from any of its competitors. Amongst the options for Baltic Porters are Flying dog Gonzo Imperial Porter; Jack’s Abby Barrel-Aged Framinghammer; Smuttynose Baltic Porter; and Sixpoint Brewery 4 Beans.
We’ll finish off for today with Barleywines. These are strong ales comprised of high alcohol levels, a taste that feels bittersweet in the mouth, and a rich sense of satisfaction after drinking. Originating from the Ancient Greeks and becoming a staple of American culture, British Barleywines have become very popular, and we highly recommend you check some out this winter. You can choose from Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine Style Ale; Victory Old Horizontal; Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Barleywine Ale; Weyerbacher Insanity Ale and many others.
Of course, there are many great beers that are perfect for cold conditions, and as well as those that we have outlined here, we offer a wide variety of cool beverages that will help you to enjoy the winter that much more. Check out our winter beer range ==>> here.
